Freq — Pulp Sci-Fi Gig Poster Series
Role: Graphic Designer / Illustrator
Tools: Adobe Photoshop | Illustrator | hand-collaging techniques (digital) | archival image sourcing
This poster series was created for a jazz band called Freq, who play in a conceptual theme of space communication. I was tasked with developing a visual identity for multiple gigs that embraced the wild, nostalgic aesthetic of vintage pulp sci-fi comics.
The band requested a “space pirates vs. evil space creatures” narrative, so I sourced and composited a range of vintage pulp art and retro sci-fi illustrations. I then digitally manipulated these assets, replacing character heads with band members and building surreal, action-packed space scenes that reflect the band’s playful and imaginative energy.
Each poster was used to promote different performances, keeping consistency through typography and tone, while varying the visuals for uniqueness and engagement.
